MENTAL HEALTH

THERAPEUTIC
FILM-MAKING

We use group work and creative storytelling to take our participants on a journey through their own lives, giving them new perspectives to enable them to make real and lasting changes themselves. It looks something like this:

WHO DO WE WORK WITH?

esc films deliver transformative film-making projects to excluded individuals within learning disability and mental health settings. Our creative processes are transferrable to any participant group.

However, so far we have specialised in forensic mental health, learning and intellectual disabilities.

Northern Trust: Community & Forensic Mental Health Team (8 years), the Promote Learning Disability Team (3 years)

Belfast Trust: Men and women with learning disabilities who find it difficult to engage in regular services • Women and men with severe mental health issues and forensic behaviours (Shannon Clinic Secure mental health unit, Wards 1,2,3)

Southern Trust: young people with intellectual disabilities and their families (in services, at home and in special schools)

South Eastern Trust: Vulnerable young people with mental health issues within the looked after children’s system. (Ashgrove Specialist Children’s Home, Newtownards)

We run an ASDAN-accredited 25 week film-making course called Second Chance for Change which does what it says on the tin. We have partnered with the Northern and Belfast Trusts to run this over the last eight years with forensic mental health patients and both men and women with learning disabilities.

We also run a shorter course called Turning Points. We have run this within secure mental health settings and with young people.

We work closely with Health Trusts, the PSNI and Community and Forensic Mental Health teams as well as specialist learning disability teams. We have proven creative methods that transfer to any participant group. Find out more about our impact here.

You can preview some of our work below – we also have some special project collections available at Second Chance For Change, Film ClubVoices of the New BelfastAll Our Stories and Belfast Reconnects.
