CANCER FOCUS NI
esc films was commissioned to work with the Family Support Team at Cancer Focus NI to create a series of training films over a period of 4 years. In Year 1, we created The Journey film series with the Cancer Focus Youth Parliament and their families. The films aim to help parents or carers who have cancer speak to their children about what lies ahead. We hope that these videos will help with those difficult conversations when the future looks uncertain, and answer some of the questions that parents have as they embark on this part of their cancer journey.
In Year 2 we created The Learnings film series, working with teachers and school staff across Northern Ireland in both primary and secondary settings to learn from their experiences and offer useful and practical advice. We partnered again with the Youth Parliament, drawing on the lived experiences of young people who have lost a significant adult to cancer, to reflect on their learnings of how their schools reacted when they were dealing with their losses. These films hope to empower schools and teaching staff to better respond when one of their pupils is facing bereavement.
