Koestler TrustMickey B won the 2008 Roger Graef Award for Outstanding Achievement in Film, part of the national Arthur Koestler Awards.

Mickey B was the first UK feature film to be made with prisoners in a maximum-security jail with serving prisoners and prison staff as cast. Watch the trailer here. You can buy the film on this site and rent it at Xtravision!

Also since 2003 Tom Magill and Simon Wood have completed 2 dramas and 3 documentaries in Maghaberry Prison which have won a series of awards:

 

  • The Big Question, a documentary commissioned by the prison about the effect of incarceration on prisoners’ families won the Arthur Koestler Award and the Royal London Society Merit Award 2006 for prison documentary.
  • Inside Job, a 15 minute drama about a bank robbery organised from within a prison won a Arthur Koestler Award for prison drama in 2004.

In 2004, 2005 and 2006 we received Impetus Human Rights Awards for our work with youth film drama at sectarian interfaces across Belfast. ESC has been working in partnership with QFT for the past 3 years on these innovative film making projects.
